PINpoint: Photobucket takes fight to Facebook

While Facebook is the hot spot for many individuals' photo-sharing and photo-hosting needs, its competitors are not giving up without a fight. In a move designed to take a chunk out of the burgeoning mobile photo industry, News Corporation's Photobucket is merging its operations with Ontela, a leading provider of photo software for mobile phones.

The combined company, which will be known as Photobucket Corporation, will leverage the assets of two of the online photo industry's leading players. The combination will bring together Photobucket?s massive audience of more than 22 million users in the US and around the world with Ontela's leading-edge software that is currently in use on more than 30 wireless carriers.

Picture Porter born to manage on the run

Importer and distributor Garage Brands recently introduced the new Digital FOCI Picture Porter 35 is an innovative high-capacity portable digital photo manager with a 3.5-inch colour screen for easy viewing. Garage Brands said its ALBUM Portable Digital Photo Gallery is also aimed squarely at people on the move. Users can upload, view or save their images directly from the memory card.
