Schoos Studio eschews apathy

Special Feature: The Annual

Vicki Schoo, owner of Schoos Studio in the Snowy Mountains gateway town of Cooma in NSW, says the 'worst thing' that can happen to the specialist channel in 2010 is 'our own apathy.'

"I am hoping there will be strong consumer confidence next year and therefore an improvement in overall sales," she told Photo & Imaging News.

"Consumers are going to feel more comfortable to spend as our economy is obviously responding to measures taken to avoid a recession, I hope that if I think smarter and buy wiser that perhaps I will enjoy a better profit margin," she added.

"Each year I attempt to be a better marketer for my business, establish a balanced plan and then work towards achieving goals of business growth and a little personal time off. I expect that I will try again in 2010," she said.

The Federal Government's cash handouts had a real impact at Schoos Studio according to Vicki: "The stimulus had an awesome effect on our overall sales, thanks Kev."

Vicki believes DSLRs and accessories will perform best in 2010.

Her best picks for 2010:

Compact digital camera: Not one stand-out, but certainly the Olympus range.

DSLR camera: Pentax

Camcorder: Canon

Photo frame: Collage frames

Camera bag or case: Lowepro EX range

Camera accessory: Filters

Photo gift: Calendars

Best supplier in terms of service and marketing support: Olympus
