Tamron 'mega-zoom' under $1000
Maxwell International Australiahas announced the Australian launch of the 15x Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO (Model B003).
Tamron says it is the first DSLR lens to deliver a zoom ratio of 15X (28-419mm equivalent) while also featuring a highly effective Vibration Compensation (VC) system for clearer images.
The Tamron AF18-270mm is designed exclusively for DSLRs with APS-C sized image sensors. It enables the photographer to cover virtually any photographic subject from wide angle to ultra telephoto, simply by zooming the lens to the required position. In addition, the lens is equipped with Tamron’s exclusive, proprietary tri-axial Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism, eliminating or substantially reducing the effects of handheld camera shake.
The AF18-270mm allows close focusing down to 49mm (20 inches) from the subject, over the entire zoom range, with VC in operation. The maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5 at its 270mm telephoto end results in class-leading capability in high power zoom lenses designed for DSLR cameras.
Although the lens has a monster zoom ratio, it's remarkably compact, at less than 80mm in diameter and just over 100mm in length.
The new lens is available in (all-metal) Canon and Nikon mounts. It is in store this month at an RRP of $969.
