Duncan has a win with Rotto photo fees

Photographers’ rights campaigner Ken Duncan has scored some early goals in his bid to eliminate growing bureaucratic restrictions on the taking of photographs in public places.
Duncan told a Photo & Imaging Council of Australia meeting in Sydney today that following representations to national parks groups in Western Australia, authorities have waived a $850 a day photography fee for popular Rottnest Island (known as ‘Rotto’) off Perth.
He said photography fees have also been removed from WA state parks.
Duncan’s not-for-profit Arts Freedom of Australia group is also in discussions with indigenous and management groups responsible for Uluru.
“We’ve heard back from them and they want us to organise a meeting on how it (the issue) can be resolved ,” he said.
As previously reported by PIN Online, Arts Freedom of Australia is staging a protest rally on Sunday, August 29, at Campbell’s Cove, Sydney Harbour, from 10am to 12 noon.
AFA is seeking the support of photo retailers and PICA supplier members  in promoting the rally via in-store posters and t-shirts, which proclaim – ‘I’m a photographer, not a criminal.’
