PMA AGM Meeting held at Digital Life Expo

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & PMA STATE REPRESENTATIVES LUNCH

HELD AT THE MELBOURNE CONVENTION & EXHIBITION CENTRE

ON FRIDAY, 4th JUNE, 2010

R. Robertson opened meeting at 12.05 and made a special welcome to Brenton Watkins as the 2009 Young Achiever.

International guests and 2010 Young Achievers were introduced.

Minutes of last meeting moved by Paul Atkins and seconded by seconded by John Ralph.

Apologies were read.

 

State Chairpersons 2009/2010 Activity Reports:

QLD : Andrew Mason

Andrew Mason thanked Phil Gresham for the hard work done for the previous Qld meetings. The meetings had been well attended, and “shame list” has been continued to get people along to the meetings.

TAS: Tim Jones

Events from 2009-2010 included:

John Swainston’s talk – which was well accepted.

Jim Esp (PMAI) attended the Tas Golf Day weekend, which was also well attended.

Tas Christmas party on the Waterfront was well attended and sponsorship was good.

Only a small number of meetings were held.

SA: Paul Atkins

Paul thanked Alan and Catherine Logue for their support throughout the year.

Glynn Lavender spoke in Adelaide to SA Retailers and concluded with Christmas drinks in late 2009.

The SA Committee will plan for a Spring event in 2010.

VIC: Jeff Crowley

Brendan Cassidy was thanked for his time as Vic Chairperson.

There were 5 meeting held in the 2009/2010 period, covering topics as Training programs to be implemented, Strategy for Membership Drive & Recognition to Industry Members.

The annual Christmas Party had a Beach Party theme and 350 guests were in attendance.

The Arctic Blast Golf day raised $1000 for training. As of this year the VIC Golf Day will be renamed the John Noyes Classic and will be held on 21st July 2010.

NSW: John Ralph

The PMA NSW Membership has stabilised, and 17 New Members were gained in 2009/2010.

There were two meetings held during the year, with the prime focus to provide quality information to the attendees.

The annual Christmas Party was held at Darling Harbour with a Photo trivia theme. It was very well attended and supported by sponsors. Fundraising raffles were held with the proceeds going to Father Chris Reilly’s Youth Off the Streets.

WA: Murray Gibbs:

Murray Gibbs has taken the Chairpersons role since November 2009.

The 2009 Christmas Party was a barefoot lawn bowling and dinner function, in which 38 guests attended.

Murray is organising a Trade Only Exhibition to be held in the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre for the5 & 6th October, 2010. There will be 18 suppliers exhibiting  and supporting the Exhibition.

Territorial Vice Presidents Report

This year the TVP Meeting was to be held at the Conference in Melbourne. John Ralph reported that it was good to have the meeting held in Jackson for networking purposes, but there were a number of items which needed to be raised: Resources needed to be available and trialled to increase opportunity, and Legal advice needed to be available to retailers.

Young Achievers Report

Brenton Watkins reported on the great experience of the Young Achiever Program and noted that the program is also a good builder for Young Peoples’ careers. He noted that Canada has now adopted the Young Achiever Award program.

PMAI President Report

Brian Wood thanked the group for allowing him to attend the meeting, and explained that it was his first trip “downunder” and was very impressed with what he had seen. Brian noted a vibrant photographic industry, which was fun, impressive and passionate and urged the Australian industry to “Keep it up”

PMA Show 2011

Peter Rose thanked John Bourne for the 2010 Show and noted that the 2011 Show must be a hot event to wholesalers and consumers alike.

Other Business

Catherine Logue suggested that a Leadership Program be introduced and run for Young Achievers in Australia.

Catherine runs a leadership camp for Rotary and is about to run an International Camp in Montreal. She suggests that the Leadership camp can be linked to nationally accredited training. PMA will follow up.
