The industry is using the event to mount a determined push to help consumers better understand just what they can do with modern digital cameras.
PMA director Peter Rose said the Expo has received ‘blitz-like’ coverage via 90 television commercials on all commercial television stations in Melbourne as well 100 radio spots and advertisements in the Herald-Sun, The Age and commuter newspaper MX.
“As we are trying to boost retail sales, these ads direct people into their photo store for a free invitation ticket valued at $20,” he said.
Three different special education zones have been set up right on the show floor: The Picture Place Theatre, the Bring Your Photos to Life presentation area and the Visual Light Education Zone.
At each place a rolling series of free presentations will be delivered by top photo experts.
The VisibleLight Education Zone will feature expert presenters demonstrating how to get the most out of digital imaging and editing software.  Presenters include Philip Andrews, Peter Eastway, Les Walkling, Mark Galer, David Harradine, Nick Rains and Darran Leal.
The Picture Place Theatre will present  a series of 30-minute sessions covering a range of sujects from photo applications for iPhones to how to safely archive, find and retrieve  photos.
The Bring Your Photos to Life Workshops include full studio lighting facilities and models. The sessions will be run every hour by well-known photo experts Shelton Muller and Glynn Lavender of Creative Photo Workshops.
