Christmas Party

We had about 400 attendees and broke even on the night. Looking for fresh ideas for 2010 event but they will need to come as suggestions soon, so that organization can begin. If you have suggestions for a venue and event that can hold about 400 people and that your staff would be keen to attend, let us know. Nigel, Richard, Peter will ask their staff for suggestions and Richard will suggest to Paul & Sina that they do the same.

Golf and Other Social Events

The John Noyes Classic will be held July 21st at Amstel Golf Course. Keep the date free. Details coming soon.

Given that not everyone wants to play golf, a range of other ideas for social events were discussed such as 10pin bowling, indoor go-karting, or a movie night. Sundowners were also suggested as a good opportunity to network with fellow industry members. If you’re interested to participate in and help organize any of these social events let Brendan Cassidy know.

Passports

The PMA office will send out a communiqué to members to help stores manage the issues arising from rejected passport photos. If your customer comes back to you saying the Post Office rejected the photo, first check that you are using the correct guide then the best solution is for you to speak on an individual level with that local post office. Correct guides can be found on the following link:   https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Requirements/PhotographGuidelines.aspx

Young Achiever 2010

This year we have 13 candidates nationally. Judging for State finalists will take place in May with the final judging and winner to be announced during the show. The young candidates consider it to be a win-win for staff and employers.

PMA Anaheim

165 Aussies attended Anaheim. Peter Rose shared with us a few of his takeaways from it:

Running workshops and classes prove you are the specialist.

You must have an online presence.

3D is inevitable.

Memories and story-telling are critical.

Watch the Guy Kawazaki session about the power of twitter, on PMA TV.

Digital Life Expo - Melbourne 2010

Exhibition space almost fully booked. There will be 3 major areas on the expo show floor to help show consumers what can be done with pictures, and to help show retailers how they can educate their customers.  A meeting is being held tomorrow night to discuss in detail the advertising plan and opportunities for retailers to participate. 3AW and Sunrise will be involved and there will generally be lots more activity than prior years.

Next meeting date: TUESDAY 27TH JULY 2010

Meeting Closed: 8.30pm
