Taiwanese LCD manufacturer Chimei Innolux has filed new lawsuits that claim Sony has infringed several of its patents.
The TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor/Liquid Crystal Display) maker has accused Sony of violating three of its patents, using the patented technology in a number of high-profile Sony products, including Cybershot digital cameras, the Playstation 3 console, Sony Bravia LCD TVs and Vaio notebooks.
Chimei Innolux sued Sony last month when it said it wanted to “halt the sale and demand compensatory damages over a wide range of Sony products that infringe [Chimei Innolux's] patented inventions.”
According to media reports, the Taiwanese company filed its latest lawsuits in both the US and China last week and wants monetary compensation for the patent infringement. The lawsuits cover many of the same products of its earlier case, but the company said that neither cases are “specifically related”.
Chimei Innolux is owned by Hon Hai which also owns Foxconn, a major TV supplier to Sony and which recently took over the Slovakian and Mexican TV factories of Sony.
