With Anzac Day falling on a Sunday this year, retailers may see a bump in sales as shoppers head for the stores on the public holiday on Monday.
While there has been some confusion over Anzac Day public holiday trading, with state government departments and retailers seemingly unsure about what shops can be open and at what times, it seems that Monday will be subject to normal public holiday trading hours, which allow most large shopping centres to open (excluding Western Australia where Sunday shopping is prohibited outside tourist areas).
On Anzac Day (April 25), retailers will restricted from opening until about 1pm in order to show respect for the dawn services occurring across the country.
Last month, Kmart withdraw its controversial application to trade before 1pm on Anzac Day, admitting it "got this one wrong".
The proposal sparked an avalanche of criticism from all section of the community. Kmart managing director Guy Russo said the company made the decision not to open its NSW stores during the morning marches after an avalanche of criticism from politicians, ex-Diggers and customers.

We should not be trading till 1pm on Anzac Day in simple respect for those who made the ultimate sarifice. Why we cannot manage to not trade on the special day is simply beyond me. How far will we go for the almughty dollar?
